We just got back from a fabulous trip to Lake Powell.
It started off a little ruff but ended perfectly. First off, we bought a new vehicle last Sat just in time for the trip, but then the check engine light came on Tues afternoon, Dave took it in Wed and they said they needed to replace a part but it wouldn't be in until next week. Dave told them we were headed to Powell pulling a boat and they said it should be fine..... (cross our fingers)
Well, we pulled out of town all packed up and ready to begin our adventure when we hit Santaquin hill, the truck slipped out of gear and reved way up then back down into gear. We got off freeway to get gas, then headed back onto freeway, only to have it do it again. Crap! We can't cancel and go back now, not with all the work that went into packing and loading and not with the excitment for going.
Luckily Dave's parents live in Nephi and have a truck and were super nice to let us borrow it. So we trucked our way to Nephi going as fast as the truck would allow (40mph), repacked everything into the truck, had to stop again for gas, and then finally we were on our way. With kids packed in the back seat no DVD, no books or toys (cuz we were planning on watching movies the whole way), no earplugs for mom and little elbows raring to go. Brace yourself Candice this is going to be a loonnnnggggg drive. and Oh yeah, I forgot my camera, what?!? who does that? oh yeah me!
We made it to Page, AZ with everyone still alive and functioning, and so so happy to get out and stretch our legs. We headed in to Walmart to do some grocery shopping. After shopping we headed to the boat yard, unpacked the groceries and went to bed.
Early Monday morning we got on the water, and set out for a place to stay for the week. This always takes a few hours. Weather was HOT, HOT, HOT! So we stopped here and there to let the kids jump in and then finally we found a place. We had a great time.
Monday evening we got hit by a lightning/thunderstorm that I have never seen before. It moved in and out quick, with lightning stricking really close to camp. The crackling of the lightning was unreal! I wish I would have had my camera to video it, it was awesome! The kids were a little nervous and so were some of the adults. One hit so close it made my dad jump about 10 feet. Pretty funny!
We all had a blast swiming in the water, jetskiing, tubing, fishing, wakeboarding and skiing. By the 3rd day my dad had the 3 yr old boys (Grayson and Teigan) swiming like pros. They were our little sharks and loved every minute of it!
Day 4 Jaxon spent most of the day on the beach golfing, playing in the sand and fishing. He was in heaven.
Then on Day 5 Jaxon was jumping off the top of the house boat which is at least 20 feet. It was crazy!
The sceenary there is incredible, so beautiful! There is so much to look at and take in, I could have spent another week there, at least.
